Wash Away Worry...

I read this in a magazine awhile back, and I'm sharing it with you because I think it's a cool way to try to relieve stress...  Try It:

1. Get comfortable in a quiet place.  Or wherever you are at the moment.  Close your eyes and take a few full breaths.

2.  Think of a beautiful, peaceful beach on a warm, clear day.

3.  Place yourself in this setting.  Imagine standing where the sand meets the water.  Use all your senses:  Smell the salt, hear the waves.  Feel the sand under your toes, sun warming your face, gentle sea breeze in your hair.

4.  Now, think of your biggest stressor.  Boil it down to a single word -- for example, "bills" or "job."

5.  Write in the wet sand.  And now watch the lapping waves gently erase it, smoothing over the sand.  See and feel the word -- and the worry -- disappear.

Neat Idea: Put it in a Book!

If you're as obsessed as I am about keeping your home clutter free (or at least keeping the clutter where no one can see), check this out! 

I've found these BOOKS that are really 'undercover' storage boxes that I just love!  It's really a great idea.  They're fun & pretty and definitely different than the typical basket or storage bin.  And they even look like real books from a distance!

 

Then you get up close & open it up....and Ta-daaa!!!  All your hidden 'treasures' are neatly tucked away inside!

 

GOOD IDEA:  Put it in a book!  Have some fun & get creative with your storage boxes!  Put lotions & cosmetics neatly away on your dresser.  Hide all those remote controls laying around on your coffee table.  Or just store some tchochkes in a book on a shelf!

Bar-Snack-Pack

Whenever I go out for happy hour, I'm always hungry.  I haven't eaten anything since lunch, and dinner may not happen for another few hours.  But I could quickly forget about my hunger if I had something to munch on like some nuts or chips.  The problem is that most bars in NY don't ever give out any munchies.  I've never really understood that.  It's such a simple & inexpensive thing to offer.  Plus, salty snacks = thirsty people who will order more drinks!  And isn't that what the bar really wants from us?  To order more drink$$$? 

Anyway, I did a random survey of a few people at a happy hour last night, offering my very own GOOD IDEA: Bar-Snack-Packs filled with a choice of either almonds or pistachios.  (To be honest, it was part NYMuse promotion, part experiment on my snack theory.)  I'd say that 9 out of 10 people I gave them to fully agreed that it was a nice treat to have while drinking at a bar.  Actually, about 3 of those people couldn't resist opening them up and munching at that very moment.  One woman kept trying to put them away in her purse, only to pull them out again & again to munch on "just a few more." 

The only downside was for those people who got the pistachio packs:  nowhere to throw away the shells.  This posed a bit of a problem, though it didn't stop Rod from Toronto from emptying his snack pack rather quickly.  In fact, it even INSPIRED him to share what became my "quote of the day" today. 

GOOD IDEA:  Take a Bar-Snack-Pack with you to your next happy hour.  Share with friends.  Notice how everyone laughs about it at first, but then can't stop munching with you.  Also, remember that it's just not good to drink on an empty stomach!

Add champagne to anything and suddenly, it's a celebration!  It's really a simple thing you can do to make a splash at any gathering.  And why not...one life to live...no need to wait until there's an occasion.  Every day should be special & a celebration!  So bust out that bottle of bubbly you've been saving in the fridge...go ahead, you deserve it!

And since the champagne itself is so fancy & fab, there's no need to make a fuss on what to serve with it...especially if it's a spur of the moment/last minute thing.  Just make a simple plate of munchies to go with it -- some cheese, crackers, cold cuts, carrot/celery sticks, dip, fruit...whatever's in your fridge will do.  Put it on a pretty platter, and voila!  Let's celebrate!

 

 

Purpose of a Penny

 

 

 

Pennies seem so useless today, don't they?  There are always too many of them floating around in your pockets for no apparent reason.  And then, of course, when you really need one, they're absolutely nowhere to be found! 

Well, NYMuse recommends you try putting your pennies to good use.  Next time you buy yourself a bunch of fresh-cut tulips, whip out those useless pennies! 

GOOD IDEA:  Drop two or three pennies into the water vase before adding the tulips. The copper in the pennies help keep the stems strong, and so they'll stand happy & tall!  Penny-less: the tulips will droop quickly & look quite sad :(
