Just Give Up Trying!

 

I read something over the weekend about how important it is to eliminate the word "try" from your vocabulary.  Basically, the point was that "try" is filled with so much inaction.  And if you could just replace it with an action word, then you can actually get somewhere!  So I've decided that my goal this week will be to "try" to do that.  Of course, I'm not even past the third sentence, and already I've failed at "trying" not to use the word "try."

So let's start again.  This week I will stop using the word "try".  Instead of telling a friend I'll "try" to meet her for lunch, I'll tell her that I "will" or I "won't."  Instead of telling myself I'll "try" to get around to doing my laundry by Friday, I'll either just do that or don't. 

I invite you to "try" this out too!  Scratch that.  I invite you to do it too. 

GOOD IDEA:  Just Give Up Trying!  Make it your goal this week to remember the wise words of Yoda who truly said it best:  "Do or Do Not.  There Is No Try."

Neat Idea: Put it in a Book!

If you're as obsessed as I am about keeping your home clutter free (or at least keeping the clutter where no one can see), check this out! 

I've found these BOOKS that are really 'undercover' storage boxes that I just love!  It's really a great idea.  They're fun & pretty and definitely different than the typical basket or storage bin.  And they even look like real books from a distance!

 

Then you get up close & open it up....and Ta-daaa!!!  All your hidden 'treasures' are neatly tucked away inside!

 

GOOD IDEA:  Put it in a book!  Have some fun & get creative with your storage boxes!  Put lotions & cosmetics neatly away on your dresser.  Hide all those remote controls laying around on your coffee table.  Or just store some tchochkes in a book on a shelf!

Inspiration can have an infinite variety of sources.  You could be inspired by music, a sunset, or even a brisk walk in the park.  Often times, I’ve been inspired by Mom.  She’s always got good tips, ideas, and advice to share.  So, I’ve listed some of my favorites below. 

You’ll notice that it’s quite a random list of thoughts.  And how perfect really: A list that's just as random as life itself, helping me navigate my EveryDay. 

 

• Hand wash all your nice blouses to keep them from fading too fast
• Use press-n-seal instead of aluminum foil
• Always charge your cell phone before the battery is completely dead
• Be prepared:  Always have Advil in your purse
• Clean up around you as you go while cooking
• Know that you’re worth it, and you deserve the best
• Grilled chicken and salad is the most perfect meal: quick, easy, simple, healthy, and dietetic
• Don’t skimp on fresh ingredients – Ever!
• Whether a party of 1 or 100, always host & serve with class & style
• Details Matter:  In your appearance, home, manners, etc.  So always pay attention to them and make your best effort
• Stay healthy!  Exercise and eat right
• Pay in full – Always!
• Tell it like it is
• Don’t let people take advantage of you
• Have an evening routine that prepares you for the next day – it eliminates stress, hurry, and worry!
• Use common sense in all you do everyday
• Good health is paramount – Stay on top of it!
• Leave yourself voicemail reminders so you don’t forget stuff
• Be thankful.  You’re better off than most.
• Remember where you came from, the lessons you learned, the person you became, and focus on where you’re going.
• Respect people’s time:  Be on time!
• Your reputation is everything.  Play Nice! J

Life Lessons: Things to Remember EveryDay!

 

 

 

While traveling in Greece one summer, The Muse was Inspired!  Granted, I'm inspired EVERY time I go to Greece, because it's just such a magical place!  But that one summer in particular, I realized that it was also the connections I was making with people that brought me to life.  I was suddenly very much ALIVE and excited about life.  And it was all because the people around me were open & authentic, full of energy, joy, and a true passion for life!  It inspired me to write a list that has since been my daily reminder to keep that ALIVE feeling going strong!

 

1) Don't have too many expectations, they often lead to dissapointment – just have fun! 
2) Don’t ask too many questions; be ok with some unknowns
3) You’re not alone!  People are all around you.  Just let them in!
4) Enjoy every moment – LIVE LIFE!
5) Spend time with people who share the same energy and enthusiasm for life as you

 

Number 5 was the most important thing on my list.  I left it for last, because I wanted to savor that every time I read it.  There's nothing like it in the world!  It's my favorite thing, and my favorite reminder of how fun life can be when you're sharing great connections with people.  So many lessons can came from that one line for me: 

 

• Choose wisely who you spend your time with. 
• Weed out those who make you feel anything but excited about life. 
• People and community really do matter and make a world of difference in your day-to-day.
• Sharing even the most regular moments with great people creates the best memories.
• Stay open to finding those new connections - and more of them will find their way to you.

 

So, what does your list look like?  What makes you feel alive?  What things do you need to remind yourself of everyday?  Oh, and btw, you don't have to take a memorable trip to Greece to be inspired to think about life....that part is optional.  Though highly recommended! :)
